Box of Wonders
Turning Tropes is a fun dive into analog animation using thaumatropes—those simple, two-frame spinning toys that create the illusion of movement. I created a series of illustrations and quick animations that bring these classic devices to life, playing with storytelling and the way two images can come together to surprise you.
This project was part of a university course called “The Book as a Cabinet of Wonders”. The course encouraged us to experiment with storytelling in creative ways, exploring themes like narrative structure, juxtaposition, and the idea of a “cabinet of wonders” as a curated, imaginative space.

With the thaumatropes, I focused on how storytelling can transform simple visuals into unexpected moments. The spinning animations became a way to experiment outside my comfort zone, combining hands-on techniques with short, looping narratives.
