This project explores how different urban elements—pedestrians, bicycles, cars, buses, and trains—move within city spaces, turning their motion into abstract visual patterns. By focusing on these movements rather than the elements themselves, the project reveals the rhythm and flow of a city stripped of its everyday context.
The project began with the question: How do different elements move in a specific area, and what patterns emerge from their interactions? By abstracting this movement, I aimed to capture the essence of urban activity and showcase it in a new form. The locations chosen—White Sculpture Junction and the view from the Seam Museum in Jerusalem—highlight how local geography and commuting habits influence these patterns.

Process
Data collection involved filming from elevated perspectives using a drone and phone camera. These viewpoints allowed for a distanced, almost observational approach to urban movement. A computer vision algorithm and TouchDesigner were used to process the footage, transforming it into dynamic visuals. Each element was represented as colorful, shifting blobs, turning familiar scenes of motion into an organic abstraction.
The resulting video distills urban motion into pure movement, detaching it from the original context. Viewers can observe the flow of traffic and pedestrians as if watching particles or organisms interact in a living system. The project provides a new perspective on the unseen choreography of city life, emphasizing abstraction and simplification to get a clearer picture of the bigger patterns.
By reinterpreting these movements through abstraction, Organic Movement Abstraction transforms everyday urban spaces into dynamic visual art, inviting viewers to explore the hidden rhythms that shape their surroundings.
