Description
Facing Diffusion explores the intersection of human identity, natural processes, and digital technology. This video installation examines the coexistence of organic and synthetic realities, using Alan Turing’s reaction-diffusion system as a foundation for its evolving visuals. The project transforms natural laws into dynamic digital art, reflecting on how these patterns—visible in animal markings and natural growth processes—shape our perception of the world.
In this work, reaction-diffusion animations are projected onto my face, transforming it into a canvas where natural and digital realms meet. As the patterns evolve, I react with subtle facial expressions, creating a unique interplay between the organic complexity of natural behaviors and the simplicity of human features. This visual dialogue questions the boundaries of identity and the role of technology in reinterpreting natural phenomena.
The constantly shifting patterns evoke the transformative essence of life, mimicking processes of growth, decay, and renewal. The projection creates a moment of introspection for the viewer, blurring the lines between observer and observed, natural and artificial, and form and flux.

Facing Diffusion invites the audience to reflect on how technology doesn’t just simulate nature but becomes a medium through which we redefine our relationship with it. It highlights the deeply interwoven nature of these two realms, raising questions about how digital tools allow us to understand, emulate, and even transcend the natural processes that shape our world.
This installation is a meditation on the universal patterns of life, expressed through the lens of the human face—a symbol of individuality and identity—against the backdrop of ever-changing natural systems. It challenges viewers to consider how technology both mirrors and transforms the essence of the natural world.
